Pink Top City Shorts: A Ticklish Showing

Pink Top City Shorts: A Ticklish Showing

The humid summer air clung to the Pink Top City streets, but inside the cooling darkness of the Rialto Theater, the atmosphere was thick with a different kind of tension. On the screen, a masked killer was stalking the dimly lit hallways of a suburban home, accompanied by the high-pitched, staccato violins of a classic slasher soundtrack.

Celeste sat on the edge of her seat, her hair faintly illuminated by the flickering light of the projector. She stole a glance at Fabien. Celeste wore a white tiger-striped tank top, a leather skirt with a studded belt, a spiked collar, black stockings, and black ankle-strap boots. Fabien wore a navy plaid shirt over a Pink Floyd shirt, jeans, and flip-flops.

When the killer lunged from a closet with a sudden, thunderous musical cue, Celeste feigned a shriek—a performance worthy of a B-movie scream queen—and lunged into Fabien’s side, burying her face against his arm. He draped his arm around her.

Fabien: “Are you okay, babe?”

Celeste peeked out from behind his arm, her eyes dancing with amusement.

Celeste: “Yeah, I have you here with me…”

She murmured. Fabien chuckled and pressed his lips against her soft hair.

Fabien: “I’ll protect you, my love.”

He teased. He knew she was pretending. Seeing a cheap flick on the big screen is nothing compared to the adversaries she faced daily. Celeste nestled into him, feeling like a true, happy cat.

With a practiced, languid motion, Fabien kicked off his sandals. One flip-flop skidded under the seat in front of them, while the other landed softly on the carpet. He shifted, pulling his legs up and resting his bare feet firmly against the back of the empty seat ahead of them. He stretched out, completely comfortable, his flannel shirt bunching up at his shoulders.

Celeste watched him, biting her bottom lip. Fabien reached down and laced his fingers through hers, effectively anchoring them both in the flickering, popcorn-scented dark.

On-screen, the jump scare finally landed, and the theater erupted in a mix of nervous laughter and genuine yelps. Celeste let out another exaggerated gasp, feigning a tremor she couldn't quite suppress entirely—even if the movie was technically “garbage,” the sound design was doing its job perfectly.

Fabien, however, didn’t flinch. He stayed sprawled in his seat, his feet still propped up, his focus seemingly drifting from the screen to the ceiling tiles.

Fabien: “You know.”

He murmured, his voice dropping low enough that it was barely audible over the thumping synth bass of the movie’s score.

Fabien: “If you’re actually scared, we could always leave. There’s a record shop down the street that stays open until midnight. They just got a stack of new imports in.”

Celeste turned to look at him, her violet eyes catching the blueish-white light reflecting off the screen. She reached out, idly tracing the navy blue plaid pattern on his shirt sleeve. She knew him well enough to see that he was looking for an excuse to escape the boredom of the film, but he was offering it to her as a chivalrous exit strategy.

Celeste: “Come on, Fab, we paid for a ticket and a night out together. Let’s sit this through.”

Fabien chuckled. He shifted his weight, his bare feet sliding slightly against the seat fabric ahead, the rhythmic *thump-thump* of his heels mirroring the frantic pace of the film's climax.

He leaned his head back. Celeste settled further into her seat, letting the ridiculous plot play out, feeling perfectly content to let Fabien keep his feet propped up.

Suddenly, a pair of fingers wiggled over Fabien’s soles.

The sudden contact sent a jolt through Fabien that had nothing to do with the movie’s cheap scares. His legs jerked instinctively, his heels losing their purchase on the seatback and clattering loudly against the plastic frame as he curled his toes in a sharp, reflexive spasm.

Fabien: “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!! HEHEHEHEY!”

He hissed through laughter.

Seated in the seat by his feet in a dimly lit row was a guy who looked like he’d been plucked straight from a comic book convention—or perhaps a permanent residence in his parents’ basement. He was wearing a faded, oversized black t-shirt featuring the classic yellow-and-black Batman emblem, the fabric slightly stretched over his frame. He had an unruly mop of hair and thick-rimmed glasses that caught the glare of the screen, creating two miniature projectors over his eyes.

The geek didn’t look bothered in the slightest. Instead, his face was split into a wide, mischievous grin, his eyes glinting with the thrill of having successfully disrupted the atmosphere. He wiggled his fingers in the air, a silent challenge, clearly delighted by the reaction he’d provoked.

Celeste, who had been struggling to keep a straight face during the “deadly” climax, finally cracked. She let out a sharp, surprised laugh that she quickly muffled behind her hand, her shoulders shaking with stifled giggles. Fabien glared at the guy, his face flushing a deep shade of annoyed red.

The geek, unperturbed, leaned in closer, his voice a stage whisper that cut right through the tension of the film’s soundtrack.

Geek: “You were blocking the view, man. Besides, those sexy feet were just begging for it. Your arch is right in the middle of my sightline.”

Fabien snatched his feet off the seat, tucking them firmly onto the floor.

Fabien: “Fuck off… I’m not fuckin’ Jiro.”

He huffed.

Celeste: “Oh, Fab…”

She whispered, still fighting a smile, though her eyes were sparkling with mischief. She nudged him with her elbow, her voice low and playful.

Celeste: “Take the win. You’ve been teasing the patrons with your feet for forty minutes.”

Fabien glanced down at the floor, searching for his lost flip-flops in the darkness, then back at the Batman fan, who was now innocently watching the screen as if he weren’t actively plotting his next move.

The annoyance in Fabien’s expression began to soften, morphing into a begrudging, bewildered amusement. He let out a long, dramatic sigh, slumping back into his seat and pointedly ignoring the stranger.

Celeste leaned her head on his shoulder, her laughter subsiding into a content purr.

Celeste: “Honestly? It’s the most exciting thing that’s happened in this theater all night.”

Fabien had barely let his irritation subside before he felt the urge to reclaim his comfort. With a huff and a subtle glance at the screen to ensure the “killer” wasn’t doing anything too predictable, he kicked his heels back up. He slid his bare feet onto the familiar, cool upholstery of the headrest in front of them, sighing as he finally settled into his relaxed, rebellious stance.

A shadow shifted in the periphery. The guy in the Batman shirt had dropped into the very seat Fabien’s feet were resting on.

The geek didn’t hesitate. He reached back, his fingers dancing along the soles of Fabien’s feet in a lightning-fast, rhythmic tickle.

Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!! WHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAT THE FUHUHUHUHUCK?!”

He yelped, his legs launching upward in a frantic, uncoordinated flail. He nearly kicked the back of the seat, sending the stranger’s head bobbing with the impact.

“Hey, keep it down!” a voice hissed from a few rows back, but the Batman fan didn’t care. He was practically vibrating with laughter, his shoulders shaking as he leaned back, looking remarkably cozy using Fabien’s own feet as a personal armrest.

Fabien: “GOHOHOHOHOHOHOHODAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHMN YOHOHOHOU!!”

Celeste lost it. She threw her head back, her vibrant green hair spilling over her shoulders as she erupted into a fit of breathless laughter.

Fabien: “AIHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!”

He tried to pull his feet back, but the guy in the Batman shirt had effectively pinned his ankles down with his own shoulders, leaning into the contact.

Fabien: “STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!”

He tried to wiggle his toes away, but the stranger simply mirrored the movement, laughing under his breath.

Geek: “It’s a public theater, man.”

The guy whispered back, turning his head just enough to offer a wide, unapologetic grin.

Geek: “If you put your feet up, you’re playing the game. And I’m winning.”

Fabien: “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”

He laughed hard and yanked his feet away. He clasped his hand over his chest, catching his breath.

A mischievous grin spread across Celeste’s lips. Fabien’s eyes went wide, the color draining from his face as the betrayal hit home.

Fabien: “Celeste, no! Don’t you dare—”

But it was already too late. Celeste, fueled by a mix of chaotic glee and a long-standing desire to see Fabien being tickled to tears, lunged forward. She clamped her hands firmly over Fabien’s shins, pinning his legs down against the seat cushion.

Celeste: “Sorry, handsome man…”

She giggled, her eyes bright with mischief.

Celeste: “You were begging for this.”

With his legs effectively locked in place by Celeste’s grip, Fabien was completely defenseless. The guy in the Batman shirt didn’t waste a single second. He turned around in his seat, his grin widening into something truly devilish, and dove right in.

Fabien:

He attacked with precision, his fingers darting across the soles of Fabien’s feet in a relentless, rhythmic frenzy.

Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!”

He let out a high-pitched laugh, his composure disintegrating instantly. He tried to thrash, but Celeste leaned her weight into her arms, keeping him perfectly anchored. His toes curled hard, and his head dropped back against his seat, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably as he buckled under the onslaught.

The Batman fan was laughing right along with him, completely caught up in the absurdity.

Geek: “You’re a sensitive one, aren’t you, flannel-man?”

He teased, escalating his efforts.

Fabien: “OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO FUCK OHOHOHOHOHOHOFF!!”

Fabien was a lost cause. He was wheezing, his breath hitching as he tried to catch it between fits of laughter. He looked over at Celeste, his hair a mess, his expression a frantic mix of “I’m going to kill you” and pure, helpless delight.

Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOOUHOHOOUO AHAHAHAHA WILL PAAHAHAHAY!!”

He whined, his body squirming uselessly against her hold.

Celeste just beamed at him, her own laughter ringing out in the dark theater, blending perfectly with the ridiculous, high-pitched soundtrack of the movie. It was the absolute peak of their Friday night, a moment of unadulterated, chaotic fun that neither of them would ever be able to explain to anyone else.

As the villain on screen finally met his end in a spray of fake blood, Fabien’s feet were still being mercilessly tickled, and he had completely given up on fighting back, his laughter echoing through the row as he finally surrendered to the madness.

Fabien: “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! PLEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEASE!!”

The Batman-shirted stranger seemed to sense that Fabien was completely broken, and he decided to turn the intensity up to eleven.

Geek: “I take that back! You’re extremely ticklish!”

He laughed, his voice brimming with wicked delight. He tickled his soles with a more aggressive, digging motion, his fingertips raking firmly over the sensitive arches of Fabien’s feet.

Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! WAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!”

Fabien screamed. His legs began to twitch and kick wildly under Celeste’s firm grip. Every time the stranger’s fingers hit that perfect, maddeningly ticklish spot, Fabien’s entire body spasmed. He was arched back in his seat, his white hair whipping across his forehead, his face flushed a vibrant, frantic red.

Fabien: “ARGH! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!! WAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!”

He shrieked, his voice cracking. He tried to yank his legs free, but Celeste was relentless, her hands locked around his shins like iron cuffs. She was practically shaking with her own laughter, leaning in close to watch the complete unraveling of his dignity. She pressed down harder, ensuring there was absolutely no escape from the relentless torture.

Fabien: “AIYEEEEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!! WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOO!!”

The geek didn’t hold back. He was working both feet now, his fingers moving in a chaotic, rapid-fire blur that sent shivers of involuntary laughter cascading through Fabien’s frame. It was sensory overload; the frantic, high-pitched music from the movie screen seemed to pulse in time with the tickling.

Fabien: “PLEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEASE!!”

Fabien’s breath was coming in short, jagged gasps, his chest heaving as he surrendered completely to the onslaught. His toes were curled into tight, tense little knots, and he was laughing so hard his eyes were streaming with tears. He was just a mess of uncontrollable giggles and frantic squirming.

Fabien: “NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOOHO!! WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!”

As the credits rolled, the stranger in the Batman shirt gave Fabien’s feet a kiss and flashed a lopsided grin that said “thanks for the entertainment,” and bounded up the theater steps. He disappeared into the lobby, leaving behind a trail of popcorn and an echo of his own fading laughter.

Fabien lay slumped in his seat for a moment, his chest heaving, and his feet tingling in the cool air of the theater. Celeste giggled at him.

Fabien: "That was fucking Hell..."

He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.

Celeste: “Oh, please…”

She giggled, standing up and brushing off her miniskirt.

Celeste: “You loved it, and you know it. You haven’t laughed that hard since that Blair wrote that rant on the Lonely Nice Guys Forum.”

Fabien drew a long breath and grabbed his flip-flops from under the seat. He slid his feet into them.

Fabien: “Hahahahaha, okay, I did.”

He relented and smiled a bit.

Fabien: “But I am pooped.”

~

They made their way out into the humid, star-lit summer night, the asphalt of the parking lot still radiating the heat of the day. The neon sign of the theater cast a long, buzzing pink glow as they walked toward Fabien’s car.

Sitting under the dim yellow hum of a parking lot light was his 1970 Shelby Mustang Cobra.

Fabien fumbled with his keys, his hands still trembling slightly from the tickle-induced adrenaline. He slid into the driver’s seat and reached over and unlocked the passenger door for Celeste.

Fabien: “Come on in, babe.”

He muttered. Celeste hopped into the bucket seat, tossing her purse into the back. As the heavy door slammed shut with a satisfying thunk, Fabien turned the ignition. The V8 engine roared to life, a deep, guttural growl that rattled the windows of the nearby parked cars.

He gripped the gear shifter, glancing over at her. The streetlights flickered across his face, and he looked at Celeste with a lopsided smirk and love in his eyes.

~

He shifted into first and eased out the clutch, the car purring forward into the darkness.

He pulled the Mustang out of the lot, the tires chirping faintly against the hot asphalt as he shifted into second gear. He pointed the car toward the quiet, tree-lined streets of the Papamos, where the sprawling lawns were bathed in the soft, blue-white glow of streetlamps.

The roar of the engine softened to a steady, rhythmic thrum as they cruised through the neighborhood, the windows down to let in the thick, warm night air. Celeste rested her arm along the open frame of the door, her green hair whipping gently in the breeze. She watched Fabien’s hands on the wheel—steady and sure again, the lingering twitch of his feet finally fading.

Celeste: “We’re going home?”

She asked, her voice dropping into a softer register.

Fabien: “Yeah.”

He replied, his gaze fixed on the road ahead, though he reached across the center console to find her hand again.

Fabien: “I had enough ‘entertainment’ for tonight.”

He pulled into their driveway, the gravel crunching beneath the heavy tires. The house was dark, save for the porch light they’d left on.

As the engine cut out, a profound silence settled over them, broken only by the ticking of the cooling metal under the hood. They sat there for a heartbeat, the high-octane energy of the theater replaced by the quiet, comfortable intimacy of their private space.

Celeste: “You know…, that was kind of hot…”

She said, turning in her seat to look at him, her eyes catching the moonlight. Fabien gaped at her.

Fabien: “Hot? A fuckin’ geek was tickling my feet. What’s hot about that? What’s next, Blair, tickling my feet?”

Fabien let out a low, mock-growling laugh, unbuckling his seatbelt.

Celeste: “Blair’s not into men, though.”

Fabien shrugged.

Fabien: “There are people like him who are.”

Celeste: “You loved it. I know you loved it.”

She smirked. Fabien pursed his lips, trying not to smirk.

He leaned over the console, his face inches from hers. The playfulness was still there, but it was warmer now, settled and deep. His thumb grazed the back of her hand, and they leaned in for a kiss.

~

The front door creaked open, admitting them into the warm, familiar quiet of their living room. The air inside still smelled faintly of the incense Celeste had lit earlier that afternoon, mingling with the scent of old vinyl records and cannabis.

Fabien tossed his keys into the ceramic bowl by the entryway and kicked off his flip-flops. He picked them up and placed them neatly by his work sneakers. He didn’t bother with the lights, letting the faint, ambient glow from the streetlamps outside filter through the blinds, casting long, geometric shadows across the room.

Celeste followed him in, her boots clicking softly on the floor. She dropped her purse onto the sofa and let out a long, contented sigh, stretching her arms above her head until her joints popped. She watched as Fabien headed straight for the kitchenette, his white hair catching the slivers of moonlight. He looked exhausted, yet there was a lingering, playful tension in his shoulders—the ghost of the theater incident still clinging to him. He grabbed a beer from the fridge.

Fabien turned, sinking into the couch. He stretched his legs out fully, propping his bare feet up on the coffee table—a deliberate, defiant gesture that made them both laugh. He set the can of beer on the neighboring table.

Celeste sauntered over, a mischievous glint in her eyes. She didn’t sit with him; instead, she claimed the space at his feet, curling up so her chin rested right near his knees. She reached out, her fingers dancing lightly over his ankles, testing the waters.

Fabien’s breath hitched, his toes curling instinctively as he tried to pull his feet back, but Celeste was faster. She hooked her arms around his calves, her grip firm, pinning him just as she had in the theater.

Celeste: “The fun is not over…”

She whispered, her smile widening into something purely wicked.

Fabien let out a low, helpless groan, his head falling back against the cushions.

Fabien: “Celeste, I swear… If you start—”

She didn’t let him finish. She dove in, her nails tickling the most ticklish spots on his feet. The room, which had been silent moments ago, was suddenly filled with the sound of Fabien’s sharp, involuntary shrieks and the frantic rhythm of his laughter starting all over again.

Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!”

Outside, the crickets chirped in the summer night, but inside, they were back in their own world—the movie, the theater, and the geek all forgotten, replaced by the warmth of home and the lighthearted, chaotic affection that defined them.
