Chapter 276
The Snake Dance
Tristan sat back in his office chair. His glasses were removed, and he gazed up at the ceiling with so many thoughts running through his mind. He wondered if Narcisse knew Rosemary had planted the letter and why he didn’t tell him. He wondered why Narcisse sent that mind-controlled DashDish delivery boy to attack Erin. Was he trying to guide him to Rosemary’s true intentions? He wondered.
What if Narcisse knew all along? If he knew Rosemary planted that letter, why keep it from me? Silence is a choice, and his silence feels like a strategy, he mused. And the delivery boy… a mind-controlled pawn sent to attack Erin, he thought. Was that truly an act of aggression, or was Narcisse trying to force my hand, to make me see Rosemary for who she really is? I keep circling back to the beginning, he thought. Was this shift in Rosemary always there, lurking beneath the surface, or did something specific trigger it? The vacation—it feels like a pivot point, but maybe I’m just looking for a clear beginning in a web that’s far more tangled than I realized, he pondered.
A sharp, rhythmic rapping at the heavy oak office door jolted Tristan from his reverie. He straightened, blinking as the weight of his own thoughts seemed to lift for a brief moment. He didn’t bother to put his glasses back on.
Tristan: “It’s open.
The door creaked inward, casting a sliver of light across the dim office floor. It was Erin. She closed the door softly behind her.
Erin: “Hey, Tristan, I heard about Rosemary… Why did you fire her?”
He paused.
Tristan: “Erin, you needn’t worry about her anymore. She breached confidentiality and created a toxic work environment. Let’s leave it at that.”
He said gently.
Erin: “Do you want to talk about it?”
Tristan smiled ruefully and shook his head.
Tristan: “No, Erin, what’s done is done, and I’m not looking back.”
Erin surveyed him for a bit and shifted in her seat.
Erin: “Tristan?”
Tristan turned his head to lock his eyes on her.
Tristan: “Yes?”
Erin: “There’s a lounge on the 50th floor of The Meridian Prism. It’s called Cinder & Spire. Would you… want to have a drink with me?”
She asked coyly. Tristan slipped his glasses back on.
Tristan: “Yes, I could use a drink right now.”
He laughed a mirthless laugh. Erin felt butterflies in her stomach when he said those words.
~
High above the electric hum of Pink Top City, the Cinder & Spire Lounge hung suspended like a private viewing box over an empire of glass and chrome. Up here, fifty floors removed from the asphalt heat and siren wails, the night air carried a cool, sharp edge, tempered only by the faint, sweet warmth of cured tobacco and aged rye.
The terrace was styled in unapologetic decadence. Deep, oxblood leather banquet seating wrapped the perimeter, its tufted cushions creased and yielding beneath plush velvet pillows. Between the low-slung booths sat dark, lacquered tables buffed to a mirror finish, catching the flicker of amber candlelight and casting molten reflections across the glass.
Beyond the wrought-iron railing, Pink Top City unfolded in an endless, dizzying sprawl. The metropolis was a cathedral of neon and arrogance, where colossal skyscrapers pierced the indigo sky like illuminated monoliths. Spires glowed with electric blues, radioactive cyans, and streaks of incandescent magenta, their antennae blinking rhythmically into the low-hanging smog. Down below, the grand avenues ran straight and narrow, packed ribbons of headlamps and streetlights that bled together like glowing lava threading between concrete canyons.
It was the kind of sanctuary built entirely for power, secrets, and slow-burning cigars. Here, the sheer vertigo of the drop was rendered harmless by good liquor and soft leather, and every whisper carried the deceptive weight of someone who believed they owned the skyline beneath their feet.
The heavy, brass-trimmed doors swung open with a pneumatic hiss, and Tristan and Erin stepped into the climate-controlled opulence of the interior. A host, dressed in a sharp, slate-grey suit that matched the industrial-chic decor, glided toward them with a practiced, welcoming smile.
Host: “Good evening. A booth for two on the terrace?”
He asked, his voice a smooth baritone that barely rose above the low thrum of ambient jazz.
Tristan nodded, his expression unreadable behind his frames.
Tristan: “Yes, please.”
They were escorted through the dimly lit lounge, their footsteps muffled by the thick, patterned carpet. The host led them to a secluded booth nestled in a corner of the terrace, offering a sweeping view of the neon-drenched grid below. Once they were settled into the oxblood leather, a server appeared almost instantly and set two crystal-clear water glasses on the lacquered surface.
Host: “May I start you off with something from the bar?”
Tristan: “I’ll have a Vesper martini.”
Erin glanced at him, then back to the server.
Erin: “I’ll have a cosmopolitan, please.”
The server bowed slightly and retreated. Tristan leaned back, finally letting the tension in his shoulders bleed away as he watched the two moons shimmer in the night sky.
Tristan reached into his inside breast pocket and produced a slim, gold cigarette case. With practiced ease, he flipped it open, withdrew a Sobranie, and brought it to his lips. He struck his Zippo, the flint sparking to life with a familiar, metallic click, and cupped the flame against the cigarette’s tip until it glowed a steady, amber orange.
The server returned minutes later, moving with the same silent efficiency as the host. With a slight, respectful nod, they placed a chilled coupe glass containing the Vesper martini in front of Tristan and a vibrant, pink-hued cosmopolitan in front of Erin. The condensation on the crystal caught the neon glow of the city below. Without a word, the server retreated, leaving the pair alone to the quiet jazz and the sprawling electric expanse of Pink Top City.
Tristan lifted the chilled coupe to his lips, the frost on the crystal transferring a sharp, bracing cold to his skin before the first sip of the Vesper martini hit his tongue. He swallowed slowly, his eyes half-lidded in contemplation as the botanical notes of the gin and the subtle bitterness of the Lillet settled over him. Erin watched him with an intensity she didn't bother to hide, her own cosmopolitan sitting forgotten on the lacquered tabletop. She studied the way the flickering candlelight danced across his features, searching for a crack in his stoic mask amid the smooth, mournful notes of the saxophone drifting through the heavy lounge air.
Erin: “How do you feel now?”
Tristan glanced at her and smiled a bit.
Tristan: “Better, thank you for asking.”
Erin: “The view… it’s breathtaking, isn’t it?”
Tristan nodded, his gaze drifting back to the sprawling lights below.
Tristan: “It certainly is. Maybe that’s why I came here with you. To remind myself to breathe and let the chips fall where they may.”
He chuckled bitterly.
Erin: “What do you mean?”
She laughed nervously.
Tristan: “Most of the things that happen in our lives are outside of our control. We plan, we strategize, we build these grand architectures of intent... but then life intervenes. A chance encounter, a hidden agenda, a shift in the wind—or in this case, a shift in someone you thought you knew. It turns out the only real control we have is how we choose to stand when the foundation starts to shake.”
A mirthless laugh escaped his lips as he inhaled another drag of his cigarette and tapped some ash in the crystal ashtray.
Erin: “Well…, you saved me from that attacker.”
She bit her bottom lip.
Erin: “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
She declared. Tristan smiled a genuine smile.
Tristan: “The pleasure is mine, Erin.”
Erin looked at Tristan, her eyes tracing the line of his jaw and the quiet intensity in his expression. She was lost in the moment, feeling a deep sense of admiration for him, especially after he opened up to her about the unpredictability of life. She reached out and gently touched his hand, a small, tentative gesture of connection in the lounge’s quiet atmosphere.
Tristan did not pull away. Instead, he looked down at her hand, his expression softening slightly. He covered her hand with his own for a brief, steadying moment, the warmth of his palm a stark contrast to the chilled crystal of his glass. His thumb brushed over her knuckles in a slow, rhythmic motion before he met her gaze again with a faint smile that reached his eyes.
Tristan: “You’re going to be safe, Erin. I did promise you that no one will ever harm you.”
He reassured her and gently withdrew his hand.
~
Night in the Little Tokyo always arrived with the hum of electric gas and the heavy, humid scent of salt air drifting off the coast. Anchoring the corner like a relic from a gaudier century, the newly renovated Miss Peahaven stood, its pastel Art Deco facade radiating against the deep indigo sky.
The club was impossible to miss. Swirling neon in warm amber and electric peach blazed out the name across the curving parapet, flanked by towering glass peacocks whose plumage burned in vivid strokes of turquoise, violet, and emerald. Below the neon script, practical block lettering made no secret of what lay beyond: ADULT CLUB, accompanied by the backlit promise of Live Entertainment and Private Rooms. The building wore its decadence proudly, a confectionery blend of lavender stucco, teal trim, and geometric fluting that seemed torn straight from a mid-century fever dream.
At the rounded corner entrance, flanked by illuminated glass block and glowing ornamental feathers, a pair of heavy crimson curtains stood slightly parted. The deep red velvet absorbed the glare of the marquee above, offering only a sliver of the dim interior.
Stepping through Miss Peahaven was like descending into a subterranean palace of velvet and electric jewel tones.
Every inch of the grand cabaret hall leaned unapologetically into lavish Art Deco extravagance. Above, a multi-tiered tray ceiling rose in dramatic geometric steps, its recessed edges glowing with electric sapphire and ultraviolet cove lights. Suspended from the center, heavy gold chandeliers dripped with fluted glass, casting a warm, decadent shimmer down upon the polished terrazzo aisle, mirroring every flicker of neon like liquid stone.
The stage dominated the room, framed by a colossal proscenium arch sculpted into towering peacock plumage. Vivid neon eyes—radiant emerald, violet, and icy cyan—blazed along each feather, curving inward toward heavy magenta drapes. Concentric arcs of light pulsated around the central marquee, promising music, spectacle, and midnight indulgence to the crowd waiting below.
Around the sunken floor, plush booths upholstered in deep midnight-teal and royal plum offered lavish seclusion. Frosted glass partitions, intricately etched with peacock fans, divided the banquettes and caught the ambient glow from low-lit brass cocktail tables. To the left, a sweeping staircase curved upward toward the balcony under the watchful glow of a back-lit bar lined with amber spirits. To the right, heavy blue and crimson draperies hung like theatre curtains before intimate, shadowed alcoves, marked only by the discreet hum of neon signage for the club’s private rooms.
The entire venue sat suspended between elegance and vice, a nocturnal sanctuary where time seemed frozen beneath the neon feathers and the golden glow of a fading, decadent era.
Energy pulsed through the packed crowd at the Miss Peahaven nightclub and ranch. Seated in his private lounge, Fen wore a sharp blue silk button-down shirt, black leather pants, and double-strap black monk shoes.
Reclining in his velvet booth, Fen commanded his own gravitational pull, surrounded by an enticing group of men and women whose laughter rang out like fine crystal. The ambient strobes flashed across his outfit in a space defined by pure exclusivity, where champagne poured endlessly and secrets dissolved into the thumping bass.
Fen: “Can you believe this?! Ivy organized all of this for me! Maybe she’s finally done acting like a massive bitch like my ex-wife!”
He chuckled, raising his glass for another gulp of champagne.
Nearby, Ivy drifted past with a quiet smile. She wore a sleek black qipao with a golden embroidered peacock that cascaded down the fabric, paired with black strappy sandals and a peacock armlet. Go ahead and believe I did this for your sake, Father, if it helps you rest at night, she thought secretly.
Ivy’s dark eyes shifted toward the entrance as Lena walked in. Lena wore a pastel pink knee-length dress featuring soft angel sleeves, complemented by butterfly sandals. Ivy sauntered to her.
Ivy: “Nihao! Welcome to Miss Peahaven, darling! What a pleasure to see you! Can I get the servers to fix you a special drink?”
Lena flushed red, and Ivy approached her.
Lena: “You invited me? It said it came from my ‘fairy godmother’.”
She murmured. Ivy smiled, placing her arm over her.
Ivy: “Well, that’s what I am. A fairy godmother helps the damsel-in-distress.”
She crooned. Lena flushed pink, inhaling her rose perfume. Ivy chuckled softly, waving a manicured hand toward a secluded corner booth flanked by heavy magenta curtains. She picked up a champagne flute from a passing server’s tray.
Ivy: “You never told me what you wanted to drink.”
Lena: “Do you think the bartender could make a Unicorn float instead? You know, the one with cream soda, cotton candy ice cream, whipped cream, and rainbow sprinkles? They make the best ones across town, but maybe Miss Peahaven has the ingredients?”
Ivy froze for a fraction of a second, the delicate glass hovering mid-air in her manicured hand. Her sharp, dramatic eyelashes fluttered as she stared at the younger girl, genuinely caught off guard by the sheer wholesomeness of the request in the middle of Pink Top City’s most notorious adult nightclub. A smoky laugh nearly escaped her throat, but she caught herself, smoothing her expression into one of amused indulgence.
Ivy: “A unicorn float…”
She repeated slowly, the words rolling off her tongue like an absurd foreign phrase. She set the champagne down onto the lacquered table and cast a sidelong glance toward the bustling bar, where burly bartenders were slinging bourbon and gin to rowdy patrons.
Ivy: “How delightfully precious of you, Lena.”
Ivy raised two fingers, snapping them with quiet authority to summon a nearby server dressed in a satin vest.
Ivy: “Find cream soda and cotton candy ice cream from the kitchen pantry.”
She instructed smoothly, her voice leaving no room for argument.
Ivy: “And make sure there are sprinkles. Miss Vaquero has refined tastes.”
As the bewildered waiter hurried off, Ivy leaned back against the plush velvet booth, resting her chin on her hand with a sly, calculating grin.
The pulsing synth bass abruptly dropped out, replaced by a sudden roll of electric drums that echoed through the club. Colored spotlights swung erratically across the ceiling, sweeping over the packed floor before locking onto the center stage.
The DJ’s voice crackled through the speakers, dripping with theatrical hype.
DJ: “Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone looking for something unforgettable... put your hands together for the newest crown jewel of the night—give it up for Fabien!”
Ivy’s lips curved into a slow, satisfied smirk. She took a delicate sip of her drink, leaning back against the plush velvet booth to observe Lena’s reaction. Beside her, Lena’s eyes went wide as saucers, her hands gripping the edge of the booth in sheer disbelief.
Heavy velvet curtains parted to a blast of neon magenta and emerald lighting. Fabien stepped out onto the stage, completely commanding the room. He wore nothing but a pair of shimmering, metallic-gold hot pants that caught every gleam of the spotlights, accentuating his lean, toned frame. Draped over his bare shoulders and wrapped snugly around his torso was a massive, eleven-foot albino Burmese python. The heavy snake glistened pale yellow and white against his skin, its thick coils resting across his chest and winding down along his hip as its head flickered a tongue toward the cheering crowd.
Fabien looked surprisingly at ease for a man holding a gigantic reptile in front of hundreds of onlookers. His white hair fell loosely around his face, and with a lazy, charismatic grin, he rested one hand against the python’s muscular body while striking a casual, showstopping pose. In his lounge, Fen leaned over the gilded railing, practically glowing with delight as aromatic smoke curled from his pipe, utterly mesmerized by the Fabien.
The heavy opening beats of an exotic synth-pop track dropped, reverberating through the floorboards of Miss Peahaven. Fog machines hissed along the apron of the stage, rolling thick plumes of white vapor across the glossy surface as the emerald and violet stage lights pulsed to the rhythm. Fabien eased naturally into the tempo, his movements surprisingly fluid and deliberate beneath the crushing weight of the massive reptile.
The eleven-foot albino python shifted in harmony with his cadence, reacting to the ambient warmth of his skin. Fabien rolled his shoulders in a slow, hypnotic sway, extending one arm outward while using the other to carefully guide the snake’s thick, pale-patterned body. The serpent glided over his collarbones, looping gracefully around his neck and draping a heavy coil across his bare chest before descending along the contour of his ribs. Fabien gave a subtle twist of his hips, the metallic sheen of the gold hot pants catching the strobe glare with every calculated turn.
He wasn’t fighting the creature’s sheer mass; instead, he leaned into its deliberate pace, letting its muscular coils wind down toward his waist like living jewelry. Raising his arms above his head, Fabien brushed his white bangs out of his eyes and offered the enraptured crowd a half-lidded grin. He executed a slow, grounded spin, smoothly transferring the serpent’s heavy midsection from his left shoulder to his right forearm, keeping the albino head comfortably elevated as its tongue flickered toward the spotlights.
The entire venue fell into a hush of fascinated awe before erupting into cheers and wolf-whistles. Fen leaned heavily against the polished brass railing, tapping his pipe against his palm with pure theatrical delight, utterly captivated by the performance.
The tempo picked up, the electronic drum pattern driving a sharper, rhythmic pulse through the room. Fabien leaned back, bending low at the knees with a dancer’s grounded balance, allowing the python’s heavy white-and-gold length to slide languidly across his bare torso and down his thigh. With effortless coordination, he caught the serpent’s midsection with one palm, guiding the massive creature into an intricate loop that coiled around his waist before rising like a sash over his shoulder.
He pivoted slowly under the colored spotlights, the gold hot pants flashing brilliant amber against the dark stage. He raised one arm high, letting the serpent drape itself across his bicep and forearm, its pale head hovering just inches from his white hair. Fabien flashed a wink, making the crowd below erupt into another wave of screams and applause. Every motion was smooth and controlled, blending showmanship with the python’s hypnotic, heavy glide.
Down in the shadows of the private booth, Ivy crossed her legs with a haughty, knowing smirk, while Lena sat frozen, her cheeks glowing crimson and her hands clamped over her mouth in sheer, wide-eyed astonishment at the display unfolding before her.
The server finally slipped back through the crowd, carefully setting a towering Unicorn float on the table between Ivy and Lena. The pink soda bubbled beneath a mountain of whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles, but Lena didn’t even glance down. Her jaw remained dropped, her Byzantine eyes locked entirely on Fabien as he executed a slow, fluid spin that had the entire room holding its breath.
The final crescendo of the track faded into a low, reverberating synth hum as the stage lights softened to a rich, atmospheric violet. Right on cue, two burly stagehands in black silk vests emerged from the wings. Fabien calmly unlooped the massive albino python, letting the handlers support the reptile’s substantial weight before they carefully guided it offstage into the dark.
Freed from the eleven-foot serpent, Fabien rolled his shoulders with an easy, fluid stretch. He turned toward the long runway extending deep into the heart of the audience and began to saunter forward.
His bare feet moved silently against the polished lacquer of the catwalk, carrying him with a relaxed, feline grace. The metallic gold hot pants gleamed under the overhead beams with every deliberate stride. Pushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead, Fabien cast his gaze across the sea of cheering patrons, offering the crowd a slow, roguish smirk that sent another ripple of excitement through the club.
He reached the edge of the platform and casually rested his hands on his hips, completely soaking in the applause. Lena’s Unicorn float sat untouched, the whipped cream slowly melting as she gripped the vinyl seat cushion, her wide, starry eyes tracking every step he took. Beside her, Ivy rested her chin on her palm, her dark eyes glittering with wicked amusement as she watched the entire club—and especially her father—fall completely under Fabien’s spell.
Fabien sauntered to the very edge of the illuminated catwalk, where the glossy stage seamlessly met the precipice of Fen Huang’s lowered dais. The crowd’s roar swelled, a wall of pure, deafening adoration, but Fabien’s attention zeroed in entirely on the nightclub mogul. Fen was already leaning over the gilded railing, his pipe completely forgotten, his dark eyes glittering with unabashed, ravenous obsession as he stared up at the silver-haired beauty.
Fabien flashed a wicked, razor-sharp grin. Without breaking eye contact, he reached over to the silver ice bucket resting on Fen’s private table and hoisted a frosted, open bottle of vintage champagne.
The heavy synth-bass throbbed through the floorboards as Fabien tilted the bottle. A bubbling, golden cascade of ice-cold champagne spilled over the rim. He poured it deliberately, letting the expensive liquid run down the toned curve of his calf. It glistened under the violet and magenta stage lights, tracing a slick path over his ankle and cascading perfectly onto the arch of his bare foot.
Eagerly leaning over the barrier, Fen parted his lips and caught the sparkling stream, shamelessly drinking the champagne right off Fabien’s foot. The crowd erupted into absolute pandemonium, the sheer decadent audacity of the act sending a shockwave through Miss Peahaven.
Fen abandoned all remaining restraint, pulling Fabien’s foot forward and taking all of his champagne-soaked toes entirely into his mouth. His eyes shut in complete, lavish bliss. He took Fabien’s foot, gliding his fingers over his instep and heel.
The crowd lost its collective mind, the cheering reaching a deafening crescendo.
But beneath his cool, charismatic exterior, Fabien was fighting a sudden, desperate internal battle. As Fen’s lips and breath brushed against the sensitive skin of his instep and toes, an agonizing jolt of electricity shot up Fabien's leg. The sensation was immediate and overwhelming. Fabien had to bite the inside of his cheek hard, his confident smirk nearly shattering into a breathless, squirming laugh. His toes curled involuntarily, and he had to lock his knee, digging his heel firmly into the slick stage to physically restrain himself.
Down in the shadows of the corner booth, Lena let out a faint, strangled squeak. Her hands flew up to cover her entirely crimson face, her mind completely short-circuiting at the overwhelming, scandalous sight before her. Beside her, Ivy slowly lowered her crystal glass. She watched her father—a feared and respected underworld mogul—willingly debase himself at the literal feet of her rival’s boyfriend. A dark, genuinely delighted laugh finally escaped Ivy’s lips, thoroughly savoring the beautifully chaotic power play unfolding under the neon lights.
Fabien exhaled a shaky, breathless laugh, his heart pounding in his chest from the sheer sensory overload of holding back his ticklish reflexes. Slowly, deliberately, he flexed his toes against Fen’s lips and applied just enough gentle pressure to slide his champagne-glistening foot free.
He rested the sole of his foot against Fen’s chest for a split second, keeping him at bay with an effortless, haughty poise that masked how close he had just come to bursting into giggles.
Fabien tilted his head, silver locks spilling across his forehead, and looked down at the enraptured club owner with heavy-lidded, amused eyes.
Fabien: “Good boy…”
He murmured smoothly, his voice low and teasing over the thrumming bass.
Fen let out a ragged, smoke-tinged sigh of sheer infatuation, his hands lingering near the gilded railing as if grasping at the air Fabien had just occupied. The VIP balcony erupted in murmurs of disbelief and excitement; Fabien’s audacity in treating the notorious nightclub boss like a loyal pet sent an electric thrill through the room.
Down in the dim private booth, Lena looked as though she might faint on the spot. Her fingers were pressed tightly against her burning cheeks, her wide Byzantine eyes completely glued to the stage as her brain struggled to process Fabien’s brazen confidence.
Ivy leaned back, crossing her slender legs under the table. A low, wicked purr of laughter escaped her lips as she took another slow sip of her drink. Watching her all-powerful father reduced to a breathless, obedient admirer was better entertainment than anything she could have ever bought.
Fabien raised the sweating green bottle to his lips, tilting his head back to take a generous, sparkling swig. He held the vintage champagne in his mouth, the chilled liquid fizzing sharply against his tongue, and let a lazy, deliberate grin tug at the corners of his lips.
Stepping right to the gilded boundary of the railing, he leaned forward. His snow-white hair spilled past his jawline, catching the deep violet strobes overhead. With Fen looking up in breathless, rapturous anticipation—lips parted, eyes completely locked onto him—Fabien leaned low over the edge.
Slowly, teasingly, Fabien let the effervescent stream cascade from his mouth, a glistening golden ribbon falling directly into Fen’s mouth.
Fen swallowed the champagne eagerly, his fingers curling tightly in sheer ecstasy. The decadence of the moment sent an electric shock through the onlookers, the bass pulsing like a heavy heartbeat through the floorboards.
Fabien shifted his weight, smoothly sliding into a seated position on the edge of the lacquer stage, his legs dangling over the rim where Fen stood enraptured. Bracing one hand behind him against the stage floor, he tilted his head back, his white hair brushing his shoulder under the violet strobes.
Fen stepped closer to the platform, resting Fabien’s foot in one palm while his other hand slowly glided up the calf, fingers lightly pressing into the smooth, defined muscle. The lavish club owner took his time, smoothing the remaining sheen of champagne over Fabien’s skin, his thumbs sweeping across the delicate skin of the ankle before trailing down to the curve of the sole.
Fabien had to dig the heels of his hands hard into the stage beneath him. Every light brush of Fen’s fingertips over his instep sent a jolt of pure, unbearable tickles straight through him. Fabien squeezed his eyes shut for a brief second, his chest hitching with a tight, repressed snicker before he forced his features back into a cool, lazy grin. His toes twitched involuntarily against Fen’s palm, but he held the pose, letting the crowd soak in the sheer decadence of the moment.
Fabien shifted his posture on the elevated platform, rolling onto his hands and knees in a sleek, deliberate movement that had the entire front row leaning forward. Bracing his palms flat against the glossy black wood, he peered back over his bare shoulder, silver-white locks cascading across his cheek as his heavy-lidded green eyes locked onto Fen with a languid, knowing smirk. The metallic gold of his shorts shimmered under the violet and emerald beams, catching every strobe as he held himself steady on all fours.
Behind him, Fen lingered by the stage’s edge, utterly entranced by the display. He let his fingers trail lightly over the delicate, upward-facing soles of Fabien’s bare feet. Fen’s ringed thumb brushed idly across the high curve of Fabien’s arches, tracing the smooth skin with a featherlight, rhythmic stroke that felt like a deliberate torment.
The sheer sensory barrage made Fabien’s composure instantly fray at the seams. That ultra-light, feather-touch tracing over the absolute most sensitive hollows of his feet was devastating. His toes curled inward tightly against the open air, a sharp, choked gasp catching in his throat.
Fabien’s shoulders dipped, his knuckles pressing hard into the lacquered stage floor as a breathless, stifled snicker threatened to burst past his clenched teeth. His leg gave a sharp, involuntary twitch, every nerve screaming to yank his foot away from the agonizing tickles, yet he held his ground, forcing his gaze to remain sultry even as his ribs heaved with silent, squirming laughter.
Leaning past the edge of the velvet rope, a lanky twenty-five-year-old guy in an oversized graphic Venom shirt saw his opening and went for it. Reaching right past Fen, the overzealous fan dug his spindly fingers straight into the vulnerable, exposed arches of Fabien’s bare feet, scribbling frantically across the ultra-sensitive soles.
Fabien: “AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! NOHOHOHOHOHOHO!”
Fabien’s breath hitched on a high, strangled squeak before dissolving into a loud, helpless burst of laughter. The sheer, merciless ticklishness overloaded his entire system in an instant. His legs flailed frantically, kicking out as he scrambled forward on his knees to escape the relentless assault.
Fabien: “HEHEHEAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!”
He wheezed, his bangs tumbling wildly into his face as he clamped a hand over his mouth, his shoulders shaking with breathless, teary-eyed laughter.
Fen snapped around with a vicious glare, his gold tooth flashing under the neon lights as he shoved the offender back into the crowd.
Fen: “Hands off my little pet, you fucking idiot!”
He barked, his voice cutting through the club's bass before he turned back toward the stage.
Down in the corner booth, Lena let out a soft, surprised gasp, her hands flying back up to her mouth as she watched Fabien curl into a defensive, giggling ball. Beside her, Ivy finally let out an unrestrained, delighted laugh, thoroughly enjoying the downfall of Fabien and uncovering his weakness.
The synth-pop track faded into a low, droning electronic outro, and the stage lights gradually shifted to a deep, moody emerald. Fabien pushed himself up from the stage floor, his face flushed pink and his chest still heaving with lingering, breathless chuckles as he brushed back his disheveled snow-white hair. He quickly dusted off his knees, tucking his highly vulnerable bare feet safely beneath him before standing.
Fen was already at the foot of the stage steps, offering an outstretched arm. With a possessive scowl still lingering toward the crowd, he gently took Fabien by the elbow and guided him away from the reaching hands of the audience, steering him smoothly through the velvet-roped partition toward the private VIP lounge.
Down in the corner booth, Ivy’s dark eyes tracked the pair as they vanished behind the heavy drapes. She gave a slow, satisfied smirk, setting her crystal glass down with a quiet clink.
Ivy: “Well…”
She murmured, turning her sharp gaze back to Lena, who was still clutching her gold heart locket and blinking in utter disbelief.
Ivy: “Now that the main event is over... what do you say we go see what my father has planned for your lovely prince?”
~
The heavy velvet curtain sealed off the thumping bass of the main club, enveloping Fen’s private VIP lounge in a hush of dim, amber lighting and cool, scented air. Plush leather sofas, gilded mirrors, and low glass tables gave the sanctuary an aura of lavish underworld luxury.
Fabien sank back into the deep cushions of the central settee, letting out an exhausted, half-amused sigh. He was still trying to recover his breath from the chaotic tickle assault on stage. Fen immediately sat opposite him at the end of the sofa.
Without asking for permission, he gently gathered Fabien’s bare feet and hoisted them directly onto his lap.
Fen: “You performed brilliantly, little pearl.”
He murmured smoothly, his gold tooth catching the low amber glow as he set his pipe aside in a heavy brass ashtray.
Fen: “Can’t have stupid fucking idiots ruining your night. Let me take care of you.”
He placed his broad, warm palms against the soles of Fabien’s feet and began to work his thumbs deeply into the arches.
The immediate sensation sent a sharp, electric jolt straight up Fabien’s spine. His entire body went rigid. While Fen applied firm pressure aimed at massaging the tired muscles, every broad sweep of Fen’s thumbs across the delicate, ultrasensitive curves of his insteps brushed dangerously close to Fabien’s devastating ticklish threshold.
Fabien’s toes curled tightly against Fen’s pants, his hands clutching the leather cushions behind him until his knuckles turned white. A sharp, high-pitched gasp caught in his throat, his bangs tumbling into his eyes as his chest heaved. He had to bite his bottom lip hard enough to draw blood to keep from bursting into a loud, squirming fit of giggles right on the sofa.
Fabien: “Fen—ah—easy on the pressure there.”
He wheezed, his voice straining under the desperate effort to sound cool and composed while his foot gave tiny, involuntary twitches in Fen’s grip.
Fen’s deep, smoky laugh rumbled through the quiet lounge as he looked up from Fabien’s lap, his dark eyes glittering with amused realization.
Fen: “Why, ya ticklish?”
He teased, a wide, golden-toothed grin spreading across his face. To test his theory, his thumbs suddenly shifted from the firm, kneading strokes to a light, fluttering scribble right across the hollows of Fabien’s arches.
Fabien: “NO! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHA!!!”
He shrieked, all composure completely disintegrating into high-pitched, breathless giggles. He jackknifed forward on the sofa, clutching his stomach as his legs thrashed wildly in Fen’s grip. Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAA!! STAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!”
His white bangs whipped wildly around his flushed face, tears of helpless laughter instantly pricking the corners of his eyes. Every tiny flutter of Fen’s fingers felt like pure electric voltage, reducing him into a squirming, laughing heap.
Outside the magenta drapes, Lena covered her mouth with both hands to stifle her own giggle, her heart fluttering at how ridiculously cute Fabien looked when he was being tickled. Beside her, Ivy leaned against the doorframe, a low, purring laugh escaping her lips as she watched the sheer, chaotic spectacle of her father relentlessly tormenting the young man with tickles.
The ground trembled beneath their feet as Helga marched through the club toward Fen’s private booth. Lena squeaked and stepped away as the Amazon’s thick fingers brushed the drapes back and grinned maniacally at Fen, whose jaw dropped upon seeing. The minute Fabien saw her, he yanked his feet back and swiftly bolted out of the private booth.
Helga: “There you are, handsome!”
The brutish woman towered over the lounge, her presence vacuuming the air out of the room. She didn’t wait for an invitation; she simply loomed over Fen, her shadow swallowing him whole as she backed him against the leather sofa.
With a broad, predatory grin, she placed a massive hand on his shoulder and forced him down into the cushions with effortless strength.
Fen: “Helga! What the hell are you doing?! Get off me!”
He barked, his voice cracking as he struggled against her iron grip. Helga only laughed, a booming sound that drowned out the muffled club music. Without a word, she reached down and seized his ankles. With two swift, clinical tugs, she stripped the double-strap monk shoes from his feet and tossed them carelessly across the VIP suite. She didn’t stop there, peeling away his black silk socks to reveal his bare, vulnerable feet to the amber light.
Fen: “No! Helga, don’t you dare! I’m warning you—AHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
His protest shattered into a high-pitched, desperate shriek as Helga’s thick, calloused fingers began to scribble mercilessly across his high arches. She pinned his legs down with the weight of her forearm, showcasing her absolute dominance as she used her free hand to dig deep into the most sensitive hollows of his feet. Fen thrashed wildly, his face turning a brilliant shade of crimson as he buckled and squirmed beneath her.
Helga: “Oh, settle down, Fenny. You’ve been acting like such a big man all night. Let’s see how long you can keep that scowl while I work on these.”
She teased, her fingers dancing in rapid, fluttering circles over his heels and between his curling toes. Fen was completely helpless, reduced to a heap of breathless, teary-eyed laughter in his own private sanctuary.
Fen: “AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! NOHOHOHO!!”

Fabien bumped into someone and saw Lena had fallen. He froze, his eyes widening. Lena looked up at him, her expression stunned and breathless.
He stood there for a beat, a dazed silhouette against the electric glare, before he gave his head a sharp, firm shake to clear the fog. Fabien reached out and offered her a steady hand.
Fabien: "Lena? What are you doing here?"
He asked, his voice low and urgent. He waited for her to take his hand, his fingers firm and ready to pull her back to her feet.
Lena hesitated for a heartbeat, her gaze dropping to the floorboards as a fresh wave of heat climbed up her neck. Her fingers trembled visibly as she finally extended them toward him.
As Fabien’s grip closed around hers, she was struck by the surprising strength and steady warmth of his hand, a solid anchor amidst the chaotic thrum of the night. He pulled her up with effortless grace, but Lena kept her head tucked low, her Byzantine eyes studiously avoiding his as she smoothed her dress, still utterly flustered and breathless from the encounter she had just witnessed.
Ivy watched from the corner with a wide grin. And now for the true show to begin, she thought.
