Chapter 262
The Gilded Cage
The black limo arrived at an estate in a quiet, gilded sanctuary high above the darkened valley. It drove up the cobblestone driveway, snaked downward through dense, shadowed palm fronds and flowering flora, illuminated by soft pathway lanterns that cast long, amber rays across the stone. Warm light spilled from every arching window of the Mediterranean mansion, glowing like amber against the humid night air.
Beyond the villa’s terraces and pool, the vast expanse of the landscape melted into silent darkness, traced only by the silver thread of the distant river reflecting the faint starlight above. The gates opened, and the limo drove through.
Balderico smiled as Fabien lay unconscious in his arms. He caressed Fabien’s cheekbones and neck, running his index finger over where he plunged the needle, trying to process that Fabien was “one of them.” Balderico pressed his lips on his head. You’re not like them; you’re superior, my snowy-haired prince, he thought.
When the limo came to a halt, Henry stepped out and opened the door for Balderico. He stepped out, carrying Fabien in his arms.
Henry: “Do you need anything else, sir?”
Balderico didn’t look back, his gaze fixed solely on the porcelain features of the man he held. Balderico: “No, Henry. Secure the perimeter and ensure we are not disturbed.”
The weight of Fabien in his arms was both a burden and a benediction. He adjusted his grip, shifting Fabien into a secure bridal carry. Despite Fabien’s lean frame, the dead weight of his unconsciousness made every muscle in Balderico’s forearms strain. The night air was unnervingly still, the only sound the rhythmic clicks of Balderico’s shoes on the manicured cobblestone path. This silence felt like a vacuum, drawing out the frantic intensity of his own mind.
He ascended the wide stone steps toward the villa’s entrance, the amber glow from the arched windows washing over them. With every step toward the heavy mahogany doors, Balderico felt the world outside the estate’s gates fading into insignificance. Inside these walls, there were no secrets he couldn’t unravel, and no one who could take his snowy-haired prince away. The stillness of the night was a lie; within the sanctuary of the estate, a new storm was just beginning to brew.
Inside, the grand room settled into an intimate, golden tranquility.
The chandelier suspended from the dark timber beams cast a soft, candle-like glow across the warm stucco walls and polished travertine floors. Outside the soaring arched windows, there was a breathtaking view of the dark silhouette of the valley below.
Soft light from a brass floor lamp caught the edge of a potted palm, throwing delicate frond shadows across the cream upholstery of the sectionals and wrought-iron armchairs. In the background, the wooden bar stood quietly in reserve, its glassware reflecting dim specks of amber light.
Fabien was slumped in the wrought-iron armchair, his body heavy and unresponsive. His wrists were secured firmly behind his back with layers of duct tape, and his ankles were bound tightly together with the same. His brown wholecut oxfords were gone, and his black socks were torn, exposing most of his toes. As the heavy fog of the sedative began to lift, his eyelids fluttered, struggling to focus in the dim, golden light of the grand room.
His eyes snapped open when he realized he was in an unfamiliar place. His last vivid memories were of the Donati Tower balcony, Balderico’s unwanted advance, and the tense face-off that ended with a needle being driven into his neck. Fabien gritted his teeth as he struggled against his bonds.
He twisted his torso, the coarse duct tape digging mercilessly into his wrists behind the chair’s backrest. Every movement caused the metal frame to creak in the otherwise silent room, a sharp, metallic protest that echoed against the high ceiling. He lunged forward, trying to leverage his weight against the ankle bindings, but the adhesive held fast. His breath came in ragged, uneven gasps, his muscles burning from the exertion and the sedative’s lingering effects.
Desperation began to coil in his gut as he realized the bonds were not merely tight; they were inescapable, a suffocating layer of restraint that forced him to confront the terrifying reality of his captivity.
Balderico re-entered the grand room from the bar, his movements unhurried and fluid. His black tuxedo bowtie was undone, the silk ends hanging loosely against his crisp white shirt, and he carried a heavy crystal glass filled with a Manhattan, the ice clinking softly as he walked. He paused before the wrought-iron armchair where Fabien was struggling, taking a slow, deliberate sip of his drink. He watched Fabien for a long moment, his expression one of calm, possessive satisfaction, entirely unbothered by the metallic creaking of the restraints as Fabien fought against them.
The smooth, atmospheric notes of “Midnight Mood” by Kashif and Kenny G began to drift through the room from the hidden speakers, setting a jarringly romantic tone against the tension of the scene.
Balderico: “Hello, Sleeping Beauty.”
Fabien bared his teeth.
Fabien: “You fucking perverted asshole! Get me out of this before I put your fucking head on a pike.”
He rasped. Balderico scoffed.
Balderico: “Fabien, it’s a bit early for bedroom talk, isn’t it?”
He teased, taking a sip of his Manhattan.
Balderico smoothed out his lapels for him and made sure his green orchid boutonnière was untouched.
Fabien: “Don’t fucking touch me!”
He hissed between clenched teeth.
Balderico: “Fabien, my little snowy-haired prince, I selected that with the utmost care. I don’t want my angel to have anything out of place on him.”
He sighed, tracing his fingertips over his sharp jawline. Fabien yanked his head away.
Balderico stood back and gazed at him. He took another sip of his drink and set it down on the coffee table.
Balderico: “Despite how utterly enamored I am with you, I’m disappointed you’re an Etheressum.”
He began. Fabien sneered at him.
Balderico: “I find Etheressums absolutely unbearable to be around. One broke my Princess Gina’s heart, one who works for me is utterly incompetent, and two I work with are unbearable. Etheressums are…”
He folded his arms behind his back.
Balderico: “Experiments that went wrong. This planet thinks we need more power when every other planet is already afraid of us.”
He locked his gaze on Fabien.
Balderico: “However, I suppose that driven by insatiable greed, no degree of power suffices, leading to the creation of anomalies—these so-called ‘Etheressums.’ ”
He heaved a deep sigh.
Fabien: “You sound just like my old law school professor—incredibly fucking boring.”
He remarked dully.
Fabien: “Maybe you should deliver those lectures to Tristan instead; they might actually cure his insomnia.”
He said wryly. Balderico smirked.
Balderico: “Aren’t you quite the joker, my snowy-haired prince?”
He chuckled.
Balderico drained the last of his Manhattan and set the crystal glass aside with a sharp clink. He stepped into the space between Fabien’s bound legs, leaning down until their noses nearly touched. The smell of bourbon and expensive tobacco filled Fabien’s senses, a cloying reminder of his proximity to a monster. With a sudden, forceful movement, Balderico hooked his arms under Fabien’s armpits and hoisted him upward.
Fabien’s breath hitched as his feet left the floor. Because his ankles were taped together, he had no way to find his balance. He leaned heavily into Balderico’s chest, his bound wrists trapped painfully between his own lower back and the hard line of Balderico’s stomach. Balderico adjusted his grip, wrapping one arm around Fabien’s waist to keep him upright and using the other to press Fabien’s head against his shoulder.
Balderico: “Listen, Fabien. The music is far too beautiful to waste on a lecture.”
He began to sway, dragging Fabien into a slow, mocking waltz. The smooth saxophone of “Midnight Mood” pulsed through the grand room, a haunting contrast to the sound of duct tape straining and the frantic rasp of Fabien’s breathing.
Fabien tried to kick out, but with his ankles fused by the adhesive, the movement was nothing more than a pathetic, jerky twitch that only made him stumble further into Balderico’s embrace.
Fabien: “Let go of me! You sick fuck!”
Fabien snarled, his voice vibrating against Balderico’s neck. He tried to pull his head back, but Balderico tightened his hold, his fingers digging into the small of Fabien’s back. The golden light of the chandelier spun around them in a blurred carousel as they moved across the travertine floor.
Fabien felt utterly exposed; without his shoes and with his toes peeking through his torn socks, he felt every cold inch of the stone beneath him, a stark physical reminder of his vulnerability. He was a doll in the hands of a madman, forced to follow a rhythm he despised in a dance that felt like a slow descent into a nightmare.
Balderico: “The night is still young, and we haven’t begun phase two just yet, my beautiful snowy-haired porcelain prince.”
He whispered in his ear. Fabien’s rage hit a fever pitch, his entire body trembling against Balderico’s frame. He strained against the tape binding his wrists, his skin chafing raw, his face twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated loathing. His wounds were healing as fast as they came.
Fabien: “You fucking psycho! There’s no way you’ll get away with this! I am going to tear you to pieces!”
He spat, jerking his head violently against Balderico’s shoulder as his voice cracked from the sheer strain of breathing.
Fabien: “You think you’re smarter than everyone else? You use these big, fancy words, but I can easily tear holes right through your bullshit ‘logic’!”
He spat, his voice cracking with the effort of breathing as he jerked his head violently against Balderico’s shoulder.
Balderico only hummed, a low, smooth sound that vibrated against Fabien’s temple, completely indifferent to the vitriol. As they swayed, Balderico’s hand drifted from Fabien's waist, rising with practiced, predatory slowness to the nape of his neck.
Fabien froze, his eyes widening as he caught the glint of steel in Balderico’s grip. He lunged backward, desperate to break the hold, but Balderico was faster. With a surgeon’s precision and a lover’s touch, Balderico plunged the needle deep into the soft, vulnerable cord of Fabien’s neck.
The world tilted violently—the saxophone of the jazz track smeared into a discordant, agonizing whine. Fabien’s legs gave out, his body turning into leaden deadweight in Balderico’s arms. The fury in his eyes dulled, flickering out like a dying candle as the sedative seized his senses. His head lolled forward, his final, desperate gasp lost in the velvet silence of the room as Balderico caught him, lowering his limp, unconscious frame back toward the cold stone floor.
Balderico grimaced when he saw the puncture in his neck fade before his eyes. I have to remind myself that Fabien is above the rest of those cretins, he thought. He smiled down at him, softly caressing his cheek. And he is; he’s the world, he thought.
Balderico set his empty glass on the travertine floor with a final, echoing tap. He knelt beside Fabien, watching the soft golden light play over the younger man’s features, now smoothed into a forced, artificial peace. The rage that had burned in Fabien’s eyes only moments ago was gone, replaced by the heavy, rhythmic rise and fall of a drugged chest. With a slow, practiced motion, Balderico slid one arm beneath Fabien’s knees and the other behind his back, hoisting him upward in a secure bridal carry.
The dead weight of Fabien’s unconsciousness was a physical testament to his absolute control. He adjusted his grip, pulling Fabien closer until his head lolled against the crook of his neck. As Balderico turned toward the grand staircase, the shadows of the potted palms danced along the walls, following their progress like silent observers. Every step he took up the polished wood felt heavy with purpose. He watched the way Fabien’s bound wrists dangled behind his back, a reminder that his prince was exactly where he belonged—within the sanctuary of his own making.
He reached the first landing, pausing to look back at the grand room below. It was empty now, save for the echoes of the waltz that still lingered in the air. This house, this quiet gilded cage, was finally complete.
You are the crown jewel of this collection, Fabien, he thought, his gaze returning to the porcelain skin of the man in his arms. He continued his ascent, the silence of the upper levels swallowing the soft creak of the floorboards beneath his shoes. No one would find them here, and no one would ever take back what he had finally claimed as his own.

Celeste, Tristan, and Jordi were inside the office of Pixelsun Securities—now owned by Etsuko Hashimoto. Jaxon stood outside the building smoking a cigarette, and Deimos stood with him. The three sat across from Etsuko, who wore a black tank top and pajama pants with skulls. She rested her bare feet on the desk.
The air in the office was heavy, but as they settled into the chairs, a pungent, cloying odor began to permeate the room, hitting them with the force of a physical blow. It was a thick, swampy scent that seemed to radiate directly from the desk where Etsuko rested her bare, splayed feet.
Tristan wrinkled his nose, his hand instinctively flying to his collar as if he could block the smell from his nostrils. He leaned back, his eyes watering slightly.
Jordi looked visibly nauseated, his hand gripping the armrest of his chair until his knuckles turned white. He stared at Etsuko’s feet, then quickly averted his gaze, his face twisting in genuine disgust. How do these two put up with this? He wondered.
Celeste, usually unbothered by much, actually recoiled, her nose crinkling in pure aversion. She let out a sharp, incredulous huff, fanning the air in front of her face as if shooing away a swarm of flies.
Celeste: “It smells like something died in a damp basement.”
She chimed in bluntly, her voice laced with revulsion.
Celeste: “And I think it’s currently festering right on your desk.”
Etsuko: “Hi, guys! Yeah, I haven’t washed my girls in three days!”
Celeste: “Yeah, no fuckin’ kidding!”
She gagged. Jordi held his hand over his mouth, coughing.
Tristan: “Etsuko, we need to find any properties Balderico Belloni owns, particularly summer homes.”
He muffled through his collar.
Etsuko: “The crime lord of the Belloni Family, huh?”
She asked, batting her eyelashes at Tristan.
Tristan: “Y-Yes…”
He said with strain.
Etsuko: “Nice of you to bring a handsome friend and a lovely lady.”
She purred, taking her feet off her desk and leaning forward.
Celeste: “If you make us smell those stinkers, I will puke on you!”
She rasped.
Etsuko: “She’s spicy!”
She chuckled.
Tristan: “Etsuko, please, I am paying you for your services. We need any addresses of properties Balderico owns. He has our friend hostage.”
He said with irritation and impatience. Etsuko smirked. She loved nothing more than teasing Tristan and his friends.
Etsuko smirked, her fingers dancing across the mechanical keyboard with rhythmic precision. The glow of her dual monitors reflected in her eyeglasses as she navigated through encrypted databases and property records, her focus absolute despite the ongoing banter in her office.
Etsuko: “You guys have absolutely no idea how hard it is to hide a footprint in this town, do you?”
She muttered, not looking away from the screen.
Celeste: “Don’t know, don’t care. Find Fabien!”
She slammed her hands on the arms of the chair.
A moment later, a window popped up, displaying a satellite view of an isolated, sprawling estate tucked away in the lush greenery of Palms Crossing.
Etsuko: “Found him.”
She tapped a key, and the address—4422 Whispering Pines Drive, Palms Crossing—flashed onto her screen. She spun her chair around to face them, a triumphant, slightly mischievous grin playing on her lips.
Etsuko: “Your summer home in Palms Crossing. Looks like Balderico's been keeping a very quiet, very expensive retreat out there.”
Celeste rose and bolted out of the office.
Etsuko: “What, she’s not going to give me a kiss goodbye?”
She teased. Tristan and Jordi rose. Tristan handed her an envelope with the payment enclosed.
Tristan: “I’m afraid not, but thank you, Etsuko—truly.”
Etsuko took the envelope with her toes, and Tristan and Jordi grimaced.
Tristan: “Yes, shall we depart?”
He said to Jordi, and the two men left.

Night had settled thick and absolute over the estate, transforming the master suite into a shadowy, gilded sanctuary. High above, heavy exposed timber beams stretched across the vaulted ceiling, catching the soft, flickering amber glow from the iron chandelier suspended at the room's center. A gentle crackle rose from the grand stone fireplace, where a low fire burned, dancing across the hearth.
The massive four-poster wooden bed stood as the room’s grand anchor, draped in smooth, champagne-colored silk. Arrayed against the carved headboard were plush, floral-embroidered pillows, meticulously arranged. Beside the bed, upon a marble-topped nightstand, a rubber duck telephone rested alongside delicate crystal perfume bottles.
Through the tall, arched French doors—swung open just wide enough to welcome the cool night breeze—the dark world outside stretched endlessly into the horizon. The night sky, painted in deep cobalt and midnight blue, was pinpricked with distant stars, casting a pale glow over the quiet valley below.
Seated on the armchair in the bedroom was Fabien, his body forced into a position of absolute stillness. He was restrained by thick, dark leather straps that bit into his skin, contrasting sharply against his pale complexion. His wrists were pulled taut against the ornate wooden arms of the chair, buckled tightly to ensure no movement, while a wider strap secured his thighs firmly against the seat. His feet, bare and vulnerable, were propped up on a velvet-topped footstool, also bound with heavy leather restraints that held his ankles in a rigid, unwavering position. Every time he shifted, the leather creaked—a low, rhythmic sound that seemed to mock his inability to escape the gilded cage Balderico had built for him.
The sedative’s fog began to thin, replaced by a dull, throbbing headache that pulsed in time with his racing heart. Fabien’s eyelids fluttered, struggling against the heavy, unnatural weight of the drug. As consciousness bled back in, he instinctively tried to lunge forward, but his body didn’t move an inch.
The coarse friction of duct tape was gone, replaced by the smooth, unyielding pressure of thick leather digging into his skin. Panic surged instantly—hot and sharp—when he realized his arms, thighs, and feet were locked into place with professional, inescapable precision. The room was deathly quiet, save for the rhythmic pop and hiss of the fireplace.
Fabien’s breath hitched, turning into a shallow, ragged rasp as his eyes adjusted to the flickering amber light. He looked down at his bare feet resting on the footstool, then up, his gaze scanning the shadows of the room until it landed on the four-poster bed. Balderico was there, perched on the edge of the mattress, wearing a deep blue silk dressing gown and holding a crystal glass of Manhattan, his gaze fixed hungrily on Fabien’s face as he watched for the precise moment of awakening.
Fabien’s jaw tightened, his teeth grinding together in a silent, seething fury. He pulled against the armrests, the leather straps groaning under the strain of his strength, but they didn’t give.
Balderico: “Welcome back, my prince. I was beginning to worry the dose was too strong.”
His voice was a low, velvet purr. Fabien didn’t answer; he just stared back, his eyes burning with hatred.
Balderico: “Then again, you Etheressums seem to bounce back from everything.”
He said condescendingly.
Balderico: “Don’t you worry, my snowy-haired gentleman…”
He caressed Fabien’s hair. Fabien jerked his head away.
Balderico: “You’re nothing like those vermin…”
He added.
Fabien: “I’d rather be a vermin than a breathing corpse in your collection, you sick, demented fuck!”
He glared at Balderico, his chest heaving with every sharp, uneven breath.
Fabien: “Keep your hands off me, or I swear that I will find a way to rip that throat out—with my teeth if I have to.”
Balderico merely smiled.
Balderico: “I admit I do love me some good ol’ bedroom talk.”
He chuckled.
The smooth, melodic notes of “Sade” by Kenny G began to drift through the room from the hidden speakers, setting a jarringly romantic tone against the predatory stillness of the suite.
Fabien: “What the fuck is this?!”
He rasped.
Balderico: “Setting the moment, Fabien, my darling boy…”
He murmured.
Balderico set his Manhattan on the marble-topped nightstand, the heavy crystal glass settling with a muffled thud against the stone. He rose from the bed, and he moved with agonizing slowness toward the footstool. Fabien’s breath hitched, his eyes tracking Balderico’s every movement. When Balderico knelt at his feet, Fabien instinctively tried to pull his legs back, but the thick leather restraints held his ankles in a cruel, unyielding grip. Jesus fucking Christ, he thought.
Balderico reached out, his fingers tracing the arch of Fabien’s foot with a touch so light it was almost clinical. Fabien recoiled as much as the straps would allow, his toes curling in reflexive revulsion. He let out a breathy gasp that sounded like he was holding back laughter. The sensation of Balderico’s warm skin against his own made his stomach turn, a physical violation that felt more intrusive than a blow. He strained against the thigh strap, the armchair’s wood creaking under the weight of his desperate struggle.
Fabien: “Don’t... don’t you fucking touch me there.”
He choked out, his voice thick with a mixture of rage and burgeoning horror. Balderico didn’t look up, his thumb now circling the sensitive skin of Fabien’s sole, his expression lost in a trance of disturbing adoration. The haunting soprano sax of Kenny G filled the silence, a melodic veneer over the raw, sickening reality of Fabien’s helplessness.
Balderico’s touch shifted. The clinical tracing of his fingers sharpened into a light, dancing friction. He began to run his index and middle fingers in deliberate, swirling patterns over the hollow of Fabien’s arch, his movements light as a feather yet impossibly precise.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAH!!!”
He threw his head back as he screamed with laughter. His bare feet jerked violently against the leather ankle straps, his toes splaying and curling in a frantic, rhythmic dance. The leather creaked and groaned as he tried to pull his soles away from that torturous contact, but there was nowhere to go.
Balderico: “Oh? What have we here?”
He murmured, his eyes lighting up with a predatory spark of discovery.
He didn’t stop; instead, he increased the tempo, his fingertips fluttering over the sensitive, ivory skin of Fabien’s soles.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAAAA!!”
He laughed loudly. He began to writhe in the armchair, his torso twisting and his thighs straining against the wide leather strap with such force that the entire chair tilted on the floor. The stoic, murderous facade he had maintained shattered instantly.
His face flushed a deep, humiliated crimson as he bucked and spasmed, his muscles seizing in helpless, ticklish agony. Writhing against his bindings, he threw his suit jacket into disarray, snapping open the top two buttons of his vest.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!! FUCKING STOP!! STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!!”
Balderico: “The mighty Etheressum… brought to his knees by a simple touch.”
Balderico chuckled, leaning closer to watch Fabien’s feet twitch and buck. He dug the tips of his fingers into the very center of Fabien’s left sole, vibrating them rapidly.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! STAHAHAHAHAHAP!!”
Fabien shrieked, a wild, breathless laugh bubbling up in his throat against his will—a sound of pure physical betrayal. Tears of frustration and sensory overload pricked at the corners of his eyes.
Balderico: “It’s fascinating, Fabien. You can heal from a needle, but you cannot stop your own body from reacting to me. Your composure is a lie. This… this is the truth.”
He teased, his voice dripping with mockery as he watched Fabien’s toes clench.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE!!”
He screamed with laughter.
Balderico paused, his fingers lingering on Fabien’s twitching skin as he drank in the sight of the younger man’s unraveling. He reached over to the marble-topped nightstand and pulled open the small wooden drawer. With a slow, deliberate movement, he produced a sleek, silver electric toothbrush. He held it up for Fabien to see, a devilish, predatory smile spreading across his face. Fabien gasped and sucked in air.
Fabien: “NO! NO!! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!!”
He whined.
Balderico: “Let’s see how that superhuman composure holds up against a little… mechanical assistance.”
He flicked the switch. The aggressive, high-pitched mechanical whirring of the device cut through the smooth notes of Kenny G like a serrated blade. Fabien’s eyes went wide, his breath hitching in a moment of pure, anticipatory terror. Balderico leaned forward and pressed the rapidly vibrating head of the toothbrush directly into the center of his arch.
Fabien: “GAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!”
The sound that erupted from Fabien was no longer a laugh; it was a frantic, breathless shriek of sensory overload. His foot bucked with such violence that the leather ankle strap creaked under the strain, his toes splaying as wide as they could possibly go.
He writhed in the chair, his torso lunging forward and snapping back as the intense, buzzing friction sent electric shocks of ticklish agony through his entire nervous system. Tears streamed down his flushed cheeks as he fought a losing battle against his own body, his desperate struggles only making the chair rattle against the travertine floor in a rhythmic, metallic protest. His necktie hung loose, and several buttons at his collar had snapped open.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ARRÊTE ÇAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”
He screamed and thrashed against his bonds.
Balderico: “Speaking your native language? I love it when you do!”
He sang.
Balderico leaned in closer, and he intensified his focus. He began to drag the buzzing toothbrush head upward, tracing a path from the quivering arches toward the base of Fabien’s toes. The mechanical hum grew louder as it met the resistance of Fabien’s skin, creating a high-pitched, abrasive whine that seemed to vibrate through the very floorboards. Fabien’s laughter had turned into a series of jagged, staccato barks, his chest heaving.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! ÇAHAHAHAHAHAHAA SUHUHUHUFFIT!! WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!”
With a cruel, clinical precision, Balderico slid the vibrating bristles into the sensitive, pale gaps between Fabien’s toes. The reaction was instantaneous. Fabien let out a high, strangled yelp, his feet jerking in a blind, frantic rhythm that threatened to snap the leather straps. His toes curled and splayed with a mind of their own, dancing in a desperate, futile attempt to escape the relentless, artificial stimulation. The juxtaposition was sickening: the smooth, elegant soprano saxophone of “Sade” wafting through the air while Fabien’s hysterical, ragged breathing created a discordant counter-rhythm to the aggressive drone of the toothbrush.
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHA!!!”
Balderico: “Look at you, my darling boy. Where is that icy Etheressum resolve now?”
He observed. He watched the way Fabien’s head lolled back, his eyes rolled toward the ceiling in a trance of sensory overload. Balderico’s thumb pressed firmly against the side of Fabien’s heel to steady the foot.
Balderico: “You’re reduced to a shivering, laughing wreck, and it’s making me desire you so much more….”
Fabien: “WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHA!!!” ÇAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAA!!”
He screamed with laughter. His skin was slick with a cold sweat that glistened under the amber light of the chandelier. Every time he managed to suck in a thin, whistling breath, he tried to curse, but only more wild, helpless peals of laughter erupted from his throat. He was drowning in the sensation, a prisoner not just of the leather and the room, but of his own traitorous nervous system, while Balderico watched with the detached satisfaction of a collector admiring a newly broken-in artifact.
Balderico turned off the toothbrush, and the aggressive mechanical drone died instantly, leaving only the fading echoes of the high-pitched hum and the heavy, ragged sound of Fabien’s gasps. He stepped back, the silver toothbrush still gripped in his hand, and exhaled a slow, contented breath as he surveyed the wreckage of Fabien’s composure.
The sight before him was one of utter disarray. Fabien’s expensive suit, once a testament to his sharp elegance, was now a tangled ruin of fine wool and silk. His jacket was bunched up around his shoulders from the violent thrashing, and his vest was pulled taut and crooked. His necktie was a limp, silken noose hanging off to one side. Most striking of all was the green orchid boutonnière; the delicate petals Balderico had smoothed with such care were now crushed and bruised, the stem snapped and hanging askew by a single thread against his lapel.
Balderico: “Oh, Fabien... look at what you’ve done to yourself. You know how much I hate disorder.”
He sighed, a sound that carried a mocking edge of disappointment. He reached out with his free hand, using two fingers to nudge the broken flower, watching it wobble pathetically.
Balderico: “My prince is in such a state. It’s a shame to see such perfection ruffled, but I suppose this chaotic look... it possesses a certain charm, doesn’t it? It shows everyone exactly who you belong to.”
He chuckled.
Fabien panted widely, and a small whimper escaped his lips. Balderico cupped his jaw and raised his head. Fabien squeezed his eyes shut tightly as tears dripped down his cheeks.
Balderico: “If you want to undress, why didn’t you say so?”
He smiled and unsnapped the buttons on his vest, loosened his tie, and unsnapped the buttons on his shirt.
The cool air of the room bit into his skin as his shirt fell open. Fear, cold and hollow, settled in his chest, far deeper than the physical exhaustion he felt. It wasn’t the threat of pain—he knew he could withstand that—it was the profound, suffocating vulnerability of being laid bare before a monster who treated his trauma as a performance. He felt like a specimen on a slide, scrutinized and dismantled piece by piece. His fingers, trapped behind him, curled into tight, shaking fists against the leather straps.
As the shirt buttons gave way, the exposure felt like a physical violation, a stripping away of the last remnants of his dignity. His mind raced, desperate, clawing for a strategy, a weakness, anything—but the reality of his confinement pressed down on him like a physical weight, leaving him with nothing but the paralyzing dread of what came next.
When Balderico reached for his belt buckle, he lurched forward.
Fabien: “Don’t you fucking dare!”
He cried. Balderico smiled.
Balderico: “And why not, my darling Fabien? If you didn’t want any of this, why did you agree to be my date?”
He chuckled and reached out to tickle his neck. Fabien jerked his head back, laughing and sobbing.
Balderico rose.
Balderico: “Well, my prince, shall we finish the night—my way?”
He grinned and started to untie the knot on his sash. The tightness in Fabien’s chest grew.
The air in the room seemed to solidify, turning into a thick, suffocating mantle that pressed against Fabien’s bared chest.
The heavy silence of the master suite was shattered as the arched French doors burst inward with a splintering crash. Celeste charged through the threshold. Her eyes were wide with a lethal, focused intensity as she lunged toward Balderico, her boots thudding heavily against the polished wood floor.
Balderico didn’t flinch. He didn’t even look away from Fabien as he reached into the pocket of his dressing gown with a fluid, unhurried motion. He produced a small, sleek metallic cylinder—a high-frequency sound emitter—and pressed the activation stud with his thumb.
An invisible wall of staccato, high-pitched shrieks erupted, tearing through the air with the force of a physical blow. The sonic vibration was so intense it seemed to liquefy the very atmosphere. Celeste’s charge halted instantly as she clapped her hands over her ears, her face contorting in sudden, blinding agony. She collapsed to her knees, her scream of defiance lost in the mechanical roar of the device.
Celeste: “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”
Beside her, Fabien’s head snapped back, his jaw locking in a silent cry as the frequency bypassed his natural defenses. The sound felt like needles being driven into his eardrums. His body went rigid against the leather straps before he slumped forward, completely overwhelmed by the agonizing noise that echoed off the vaulted timber beams.
Fabien: “FUCK! MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!”
He screamed. Balderico smiled.
Balderico: “Silly, simple Etheressums. Do you think I don’t have defense mechanisms around you creatures?”
He chuckled and stopped playing the device. Celeste and Fabien were both left paralyzed.
Balderico glared down at Celeste.
Balderico: “Well, I don’t recall inviting this thing here, so I will dispose of it since Rutherford isn’t here doing the job that I paid him for.”
He snarled.
Balderico: “I will have a word with him about this…”
Muttering under his breath, he crossed to his dresser and produced a Beretta 92F. Fabien let out a sharp gasp, recoiling hard into his chair.
Fabien: “LEAVE HER ALONE!”
He barked.
Balderico: “Fabien, you don’t have a say in how I operate.”
He drew back the hammer of the gun, pointing the barrel straight at her head.
